Restoration management has brought positive changes in the plant communities at Camp Tomo Chi-Chi Knolls in northern Kane County. The area, part of the Freeman Kame Forest Preserve, was once choked by non-native, invasive plants. After three years of habitat restoration work, native plants are now returning. Forest Preserve District of Kane County’s Restoration Technician Andy Olnas will lead a tour of the site, showcasing the botanical results of the vegetation management work. The emphasis will be on plant identification, both native and non-native. Olnas will point out the botanical “surprises” that have shown up, as well as the invasive species that continue to present challenges. Advance registration is required. Call 630-444-3190 or e-mail to register. For more information, visit
