Shifting Sands tells the compelling story of the creation of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, from its ecological and industrial beginnings, to designation as a national treasure, toward a model for a sustainable future for the environment, economy, and communities along the southern end of Lake Michigan.

Join the filmmakers, regional leaders from the National Park Service, local experts, and Field Museum scientists in a post-film discussion. Explore how the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and other nationally significant sites across the bi-state Calumet region of Northeast Illinois and Northwest Indiana are activating natural, cultural, and industrial heritage for sustainability in this unique landscape. Learn about Field Museum collections from the region and efforts toward a Calumet National Heritage Area designation. And help us wish the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore a very Happy 50th Birthday!

Shifting Sands is presented by environmentalist Lee Botts and produced by Lee Botts, Tom Desch, Rana Segal and Pat Wisniewski.
