Corporate member Arcadis announced its blue-spotted salamander coloring contest winners, an effort that raised $255 for this Chicago Wilderness priority species.

The company took a creative approach to fundraising with its employees and launched a coloring contest, lead by Parisa Shahbaz, to raise awareness and support for the salamander. The winners spanned four age divisions:

Division 1: Ages 0-15 Division 2: Ages 15-40
Winner: Charlie Anderson Winner: Brianne Papendick

Division 3: Ages 41-65 Division 4: Ages 66-100
Winner: Caroline Shahbaz Winner: Phyllis Dahl

The blue-spotted salamander relies on a globally rare ecosystem within the Chicago region. The vernal pools, or small temporary ponds that retain water during the salamander’s breeding season, are threatened by increased drought and higher summer temperatures.

The donation will help enhance and research the breeding habitat of these salamanders and ensure them a welcoming home year-round. Learn more about the effort to support Chicago Wilderness Priority Species at www.chicagowilderness.org/species.
